Love Me - Film Project

 This video is an exploration of the personal and political tolls of love. Through a series of events, you’ll witness love as a living, breathing ecosystem that thrives on care and withers under neglect. Love reaches a tipping point, which aligns with your personal values. 

To break this down further, I have dissected what I intended to show with each of my clips.  

• Domestic: We see a gay couple’s intimacy mirrored in the bloom of their flowers and see them slowly wither as they face challenges, and a plant owner whose mental health struggles manifest through the plants as they start to slowly wilt from neglect. 

• Primal: A dog’s pure and simple love is met with the silence of its owner's death.

• Socio-Economic: A flourishing romance is dismantled by the cold reality of financial instability.

• Creative: We witness an artist’s love for her craft, where each pencil stroke is a form of love, but after she accidentally knocks over her water bottle, it triggers a total psychological 'crash out.’ 

The second half of the film, set to JMSN’s "Love Me," which serves as a "cry for help." It turns from these intimate hardships to a global scale, illustrating how love can be distorted into a destructive force. For example, a "proud country" can love its nationality so deeply that it confuses bloodshed with honour. 

This montage was meant as a reminder that the same heart that loves can also hate, and that the things we care for most have the most power to destroy us. 

Where there is love, there is also hate.
